Delic, a startup that gained initial investment in 2018, set out to address the challenges faced by music creators in collaborating effectively. Through a series of design sprints with the founding team and user research with musicians, producers and video makers, thev Delic team uncovered creators’ pain points when working together on creative projects.
The initial user research was conducted as a mixture of remote user interviews and ethnographic studies in creators’ studios. This revealed a fragmented landscape, with creators using a variety of platforms and communication channels to share files, provide feedback, and coordinate tasks. This disjointed workflow often led to lost ideas, missed deadlines, and a lack of visibility into each team member's contributions.
To tackle these issues, the Delic team embarked on an extensive design thinking process. They conducted empathy mapping, persona development, and user flow exercises to deeply understand their target users. This surfaced the need for a centralized platform that could facilitate seamless collaboration, task management, and intellectual property tracking.
Guided by a set of carefully crafted design principles we developed in response to our research, we engaged the Delic product team in a "Ready, Steady, Ideate" process, where they rapidly generated and remixed ideas to arrive at innovative solutions. These ideas were then prototyped, tested, and refined, ensuring they aligned with the needs of music creators.
The resulting Delic platform offered a comprehensie suite of collaboration tools, including a shared workspace for file sharing, real-time communication, task assignment, and project management. By providing a single, integrated environment for all aspects of the creative process, Delic was now positioned to eliminate the friction and inefficiencies that had plagued the creator market to date.
To ensure the platform's success, the Delic team took a holistic approach, training all staff members in design thinking methodologies. This fostered a culture of collaboration and ownership, where everyone contributed to the design and development of the product.
The design principles also informed the creation of Delic's marketing materials, ensuring a consistent and resonant message that resonated with the target audience. Additionally, the team developed a robust design system, enabling faster and more efficient development of the platform.
By empowering creators to work together without friction, the platform unlocked new levels of creativity and productivity, paving the way for a more connected and collaborative future for music makers.
With its innovative approach, Delic was named one of 100 UK Gov’s CreaTech ‘Ones to Watch’ companies and despite the hostile investment environment created by the pandemic, secured over half a million in venture investment during and soon after this full Product Design project with Top Level.
